Harley Davidson Leather Varsity (1980’s)
Harley Davidson Leather Varsity (1980’s)
This is a Vintage Harley Davidson Leather Jacket in a Varsity Style.
The history of the varsity jacket can be traced back to 1865 when the Harvard baseball team added a big 'H' embroidered on their uniform gray flannel shirt. This became a tradition for the team captain to allow certain players who played in the most important games (Yale or Princeton) to keep the 'H' jerseys as an award. In the 1930s, the letter award started to appear on leather sleeved, wool-bodied jackets and so the varsity jacket was born.
Iteration of the varsity jacket was made by Harley Davidson, the world famous Motorcycle manufacturer founded in 1903. It features leather sleeves, a leather back, a lining made from 50% nylon 50% acetate and an interlining made from 100% polyester staple fiber.
The jacket has Harley Davidson embroidery both on the front and the back, custom Harley Davidson zippers, as well as leather detailing around the jacket.
