Maison Martin Margiela A/W 2004 Artisanal Jacket
Maison Martin Margiela A/W 2004 Artisanal Jacket
Martin Margiela’s artisanal line 0 was conceptualized in the year of 1988 as a means of recycling vintage garments and giving them a new life through reconstruction. These new creations are intended to be worn in a different way or introduced to a new environment when compared to its original purpose. From minute adjustments to complete deconstruction, this venture exists as Margiela’s most experimental line and continues to set an industry example of repurposed fashion.
This is an Artisanal Line 0 Leather Jacket from Maison Martin Margiela's Autumn/Winter 2004 menswear collection made from 3 different Vintage German Air Force Luftwaffe flight jackets, from the 1940's. These vintage flight jackets were cut apart and then sewn together by hand. This piece was one of few to ever be made and is one of the rarest Margiela Menswear pieces. The jacket features a YKK double zipper closure with strips of excess leather from the jackets as tassels. The jacket also features two outer pockets, one on the chest and the other on the upper arm. This pocket features a few different compartments as well as a zipper closure with a shoelace as the tassel. The Jacket also features two armpit-holes for ventilation. Part of a collection where Martin was still fully involved in the design process. Before he gradually becomes less and less involved in the design process of the maison's collections. Employees of the house stated they would see him less as the years progressed and by 2008 he officially stepped back from the label.
